Why do Lamborghini diecast cars cost so much more than other brands?

Two reasons, and only one of them is about the car.

Licensing

Automobili Lamborghini charges a royalty on every officially licensed replica. That royalty is a fixed cost per unit, so it hurts cheap models proportionally more than expensive ones. This is why a licensed 1:24 Lamborghini costs more than a licensed 1:24 hatchback from a mass-market brand.

Geometry

Lamborghini bodies are hard to tool. Sharp creases, scissor doors, complex intake geometry, and on the Revuelto a rear deck that is mostly transparent structure over a V12. Every one of those features adds mould complexity. A rounded sedan is cheaper to cast accurately than a Revuelto, and the tooling cost is amortised across the run.

Under Rs 500: Hot Wheels and Matchbox

Hot Wheels is genuinely excellent at what it does. Casting quality at Rs 199 to Rs 350 is remarkable, the licensed Lamborghini castings are accurate in proportion, and the collector community around them is the largest in the world. If you want twenty Lamborghinis on a shelf, this is the only rational way to do it.

The limits are structural. At 1:64 a Revuelto is about 7 cm long. Nothing opens. The body is often plastic-based with a metal shell, and the interior is a moulded block. It is a toy first and a collectible second, which is exactly what it is designed to be.

Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,800: the 1:24 and 1:32 band

This is where most Indian buyers should be looking, and it is the most competitive segment on price.

Bburago is the incumbent. Their 1:24 Lamborghini range is well cast, the licensing is official, and the acrylic-case variants at Rs 2,595 to Rs 2,750 look excellent on a desk without any extra spend. Their weakness in India is availability: stock is sporadic, listed MRPs and street prices diverge wildly, and you are usually waiting 3 to 7 days for delivery.

Maisto occupies similar ground with slightly softer paint finishing but often better interior detail on higher trims.

AUTOart, Kyosho, and MR Collection build to a different standard. Opening everything, carpeted interiors, functional suspension, photo-etched badging. Note that as of 2026 AUTOart has not released a Revuelto, so the top-tier Revuelto options are resin models from houses like MR Collection.

These are not toys. Handling one with bare hands leaves marks. If you have a display cabinet and a genuine interest in the hobby, they are worth it. If you want something a nephew can push across a floor, they are the wrong purchase entirely.

Is a Rs 1,799 Lamborghini diecast worth it?

Depends what you are optimising for.

Buy at this price if you want a real metal model with weight to it, opening doors, and correct proportions, and you want it as a gift or a desk piece rather than a museum item.   • Scale not stated in the title. If a listing says "Lamborghini diecast Rs 599" and does not name the scale, assume 1:43 or smaller.
  • "Metal" that is 20 percent metal. Ask for the material and weight. A genuine 1:24 zinc alloy model should be 350 g or more.
  • Import listings without duty included. A Rs 12,000 AUTOart from an overseas seller can land at Rs 17,000.
